Apple TV+’s Constellation: what’s the theme song?

Constellation, the sci-fi series on Apple TV+ stands out for a fascinating theme song: let’s discover where it comes from.

In the last few years, Apple TV+ has definitely spoiled us with high-quality sci-fi series. Foundation, Silo, and Invasion were probably the biggest examples, but fans also enjoyed Shining Girls, For All Mankind, or Severance. That’s why the arrival of Constellation in February 2024 was welcomed by everybody with such enthusiasm: the show stars Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Millennium, Prometheus, Alien: Covenant) and Jonathan Banks (the well-known Mike from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe), the plot is very intriguing, and the mystery is kept carefully protected episode after episode.

Constellation also stands out for another element: the opening credits and their theme song. You don’t see them in the first two episodes, like a precious secret preserved for the right moment. Surrogate Sibling is a fascinating experimental project by German composer Dieter Dolezel. Born in 2014, its music is presented as “the intersection of modern electronica and contemporary chamber music.” From Surrogate Sibling’s official bio:

The music is deliberately never strictly one or the other, oscillating freely between intricately crafted string and piano arrangements and contemporary electronic beats and soundscapes in varying degrees, incorporating a wide range of influences spanning from Reichian minimalism to Autechre’s abstract electronica.

Tellur belongs to Surrogate Sibling’s second album, Hive, which was released in 2018. The label that published it, 1631 Recordings, cleverly released the song’s official video above in 2024, after Constellation debuted on Apple TV+.
