Luis Guzmán hates “yada yada” in the T-Mobile commercial

Puerto Rican actor Luis Guzmán is done with Yada Yada: the new T-Mobile commercial promotes clarity for 2024.

It’s just a 30-second commercial, but the American audience keeps smiling every time it’s aired: the new T-Mobile commercial released in February 2024 features an angry Luis Guzmán, expressing all his frustration for the confusing offers by his shady mobile operator. And his face says it all: “I’m done with this yada yada!”

The Metro by T-Mobile commercial aired for the first time in the 2024 Super Bowl in Spanish language. You can find the original, full version below, whereas here on iSpot.tv is the shorter English version.

You know how it goes in these cases: everybody wonders what this “yada yada” means. We can even hear the song, singing “yada yada” on an old tune that many of us recognized immediately. The concept is actually simple: the “yada yada” refers to all those misleading communications an untrustable mobile operator can send you. More in general, the “yada yada” is the never-ending “blah blah blah” that surrounds us. As the ad says, we don’t take yada yada in life, so we don’t want a mobile network doing it, right?

The highlights of the T-Mobile commercial mainly belong to the actor Luis Guzmán, obviously. He’s one of those faces we always like to see in movies and TV shows, especially when he plays the bad guy perfectly integrated in criminal life. Most of us remember him for movies like Carlito’s Way, Traffic, and Out of Sight, or series like Oz and Narcos. More recently, he was Gomez Addams in Netflix’s Wednesday.

However, not everybody recognized the song immediately, especially among the youngest generations. It’s a classic hit of Latin American music from 1999, Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin. Back in those days, it was a huge success, often mentioned among the best pop hits of all time. You can listen to the original song below. But be warned: if the T-Mobile commercial was the first time you heard it, you will probably keep singing it with “yada yada.”

You’ll still see Luis Guzmán and his T-Mobile commercial many times in the near future, including that song you can’t get out of your head. It’s the power of a good ad, after all.
