Are we out of time?
Is time really over?
Could be.
We are not many to prefer the sun on the face, rather than the cold light of a computer monitor. The world is locked up in the daily prisons that we build around us, in our alienating works. Sure… there are also the lucky ones, those who do what they always wanted to do. But if you look at them in their eyes, you only read frenzy and a veil of sadness. No one has time to “open up his mind and watch the world spinning gently out of time.”
Yet, if we start to dream, to desire, “we’ll never leave the clouds.”
This is the deep sense of Blur’s Out of Time, from the album Think Tank, 2003. A true poem with a great lesson.
Here the lyrics.
Where’s the love song
To set us free?
Too many people down
Everything turning the wrong way around
And I don’t know what love will be
But if we start dreaming now
Lord knows we’ll never leave the cloudsAnd you’ve been so busy lately
That you haven’t found the time
To open up your mind
And watch the world spinning gently out of timeFeel the sunshine on your face
It’s in a computer now
Gone are the future, way out in spaceTell me I’m not dreaming but are we out of time?
(We’re) out of time
