From the way A Man In Full begins, you can immediately expect something unpredictable: the 2024 Netflix show starts with the image of the protagonist lying on the floor, we hear his voice speaking about death, and episode after episode, we wait for the ending, trying to understand if Charlie Croker really dies after all, and how his decline will look. It’s just the initial scene; then, we see what happens ten days earlier: his 60th birthday party, a huge celebration, lots of invitees, and the live performance of a song we know very well, interpreted by… wait, is it really her?
The question came up spontaneously, as not everybody recognized her immediately. Yes, the singer performing live at Croker’s birthday party in the first episode of A Man In Full is really Shania Twain. And, of course, the song is “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” Watch her in the official video below, directly from 1999.
In May 2024, when A Man In Full comes out on Netflix, Shania Twain is 58, but she didn’t lose the energy and the charm she had at the peak of her musical career. The Canadian singer posted a few shots on her Instagram profile, confirming it was “an honor to be a part of this, next to some of my favorite actors.” You can see her next to Jeff Daniels in the photo below.
“Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” is one of the most recognizable songs of the 90s. Released in March 1999 as one of the many singles extracted from her third album, Come On Over, the song reached the top of the charts in several countries and became one of Shania Twain’s signature songs. It’s still celebrated today for its message of empowerment: the lyrics and the video challenge the traditional concepts of masculinity and femininity, inviting everybody to embrace their true selves. Not even five minutes passed from the beginning of A Man In Full, and the series already presented the protagonist’s charisma, putting the whole plot in perspective and defining Croker’s identity through an exceptional birthday party: we needed a memorable element for all this, and Shania Twain happens to be the right one, at the right moment, in the right place.
