Bizcochito: inside the lyrics and their meaning

Bizcochito is a freestyle composed by Rosalía in 2019. In the lyrics, she shows awareness of her talent and claims that nobody owns her. Specifically, Bizochito means babycakes, little biscuit, and it’s a term coming from a classic reggaeton song, Saoco, by Wisin and Daddy Yankee. In that song, the rappers ask, “who are you?” and a girl answers, “tu bizcochito,” “your little cupcake.” In her song, Rosalía says the opposite:

I’m not nor will I ever be your babycakes
But I got everythin’ that’s criminal
Put me in the sun, so then I melt
I can cast off the evil eye sent my way

It’s a reaction song where Rosalía refuses the objectified way hip-hop often approaches girls. And at the same time, it’s an answer to all the curses envious people sent to Rosalía because of her success: already, at the beginning of the song, she says she’s able to refuse every curse she will get from anyone.

The rest of the song presents herself as a talented musician, answering to who implies she’s only seeking fame.

I have hits because I formed the basis
I have nothin’ else to say
And it takes a lot of class to say that
My swag makes you dizzy

She has talent, and that’s why she’s successful. It’s as simple as that, and she doesn’t need turns of phrases to explain it. She even mentions one of her enemies, La Mala, referring to the Spanish rapper Mala Rodriguez. As opposed to that, she remembers all others who appreciate her, like Haraka Kiko, a notable Dominican artist. She definitely believes that all accusations are false, and she feels she’s on a relevant success wave: Rosalía calls it “la ola de Corea,” the Korean wave, referring to the popularity Korea is having in latest years music.

Who cares if La Mala is givin’ me the evil eye
When Haraka always gives me the blessing
Talking bulls**t, everything they say phases
And my make-up’s the Korean wave

After all, this is the real meaning of the lyrics inside Rosalía’s Bizcochito: I’m a strong, independent woman and a talented rapper. I have success because I deserve it, because of my talent, and haters’ accusations do not impact me. Moreover, nobody owns me. I’m not your cupcake.
