“Dance on gasoline”: Maneskin, a new song for Ukraine

A few hours after the return of Pink Floyd in support of Ukraine, Maneskin are also back in the limelight, musically lining up alongside the Ukrainian people. Responding to the Global Citizen organization’s Stand Up for Ukraine initiative, the Roman band posted a one-minute video on their instagram channel, with a new song full of energy in support of the initiative. You can find it below:

The frames that rush one after the other, the singer’s cry as an assertive request for help and a repeated phrase that is already getting viral all over the world: we are gonna dance on gasoline. A symbolic image of protest against the logic of rising prices and international contrasts on exports, through music.

The lyrics and the meaning

Standing alone on that hill
Using your fuel to kill
We won’t take it standing still
Watch Us Dance

We’re gonna dance on gasoline

How are you sleeping at night
How do u close both ur eyes
Living with all of those lives
On your hands

Standing alone on that hill
Using your fuel to kill
We won’t take it standing still
Watch Us Dance

We’re gonna dance on gasoline

Maneskin’s words therefore seem to address directly to those who attacked, asking him bitterly how they can sleep at night with all the lives destroyed by the war they generated. Gasoline as a weapon to kill, and the Maneskin who take a stand and dance on it. The meaning of the lyrics is therefore clear: we will not stay indifferent in front of this war.
