“For years I walked around thinking alt-rock had seen it’s best days, but I was dead wrong. There is a new generation of artists that’s putting the pieces together the old-fashioned way. It’s the tradition that The Smashing Pumpkins came from, call it classic rock or grunge-y or whatever. It’s coming back, and coming back strong.” This is the core of a Instagram post made by Billy Corgan some time ago, in order to point the attention towards Lzzy Hale, of the band Halestorm, who played in 2018 together with The Smashing Pumpkins a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven.
Halestorm are around since 1997 and they are often placed under the “post-grunge” label. I Miss The Misery (below) is one of their most beloved songs.
“There are moments to push and support these artists, and this is one of them. Don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself. There’s so much exciting, young and fresh music out there.” That’s what Corgan said on Instagram, adding a handful of artists he recommended, besides Halestorm: Deafheaven, Drab Majesty, Chelsea Wolfe, Cold Cave, Myrkur. Find some of their songs below. As an opportunity to discover (or re-discover).
