The updated list of the best-selling album of all time

Posted by

Recently the updated list of the best-selling album in UK has been published, covering all official data since the very first chart published by the Record Mirror in July 1956. The ranking includes both album releases and compilations and contains several surprises.

In the first place there is Queen’s Greatest Hits published in 1981, the only album to have sold more than 6 million copies only in the United Kingdom. It’s following by another Greatest Hits, Abba’s, 1992, while the first official album to appear is The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the only album that dols more than 5 million copies. Immediately afterwards, surprisingly, an artist of the new generation, Adele, who confirms its regular presence among the most beloved artists in England. The rest alternates obvious names (Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Oasis, Dire Straits) and something unexpected (like Shania Twain so high in the chart, before R.E.M., Simon & Garfunkel or Take That), plus some excellent absences (Radiohead? Not available).
