Thank You: Robert Plant’s declaration of love to his wife

Posted by

In the world of music there are declarations of love often hidden behind characters and styles that you wouldn’t expect. The one following is signed by Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, a man who has repeatedly proved an emotional sensibility which is out of the ordinary (like in All My Love, the song that he wrote for his dead son). Thank You, contained in Led Zeppelin II, the album they released in 1969. Because often rock knows how to be sweet and poetic, more than what we can think.

If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
When mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me

And so today, my world, it smiles
Your hand in mine, we walk the miles

What else can we add to such intense verses?

Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant are known to most for other compositions and other kind of songs. Yet Robert gave us this pearl, the first time he wrote lyrics for the band. A tribute to his wife Maureen Wilson, with whom he had three children. Together they will cross deep pains, like the tragic loss of their son Karac, who died in 1977, when he was five.

A special union that we can sense in this calm and sweet dedication, enriched by the heartfelt interpretation of an immense artist.

Here the full lyrics:

If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
When mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me

Kind woman, I give you my all
Kind woman, nothing more

Little drops of rain whisper of the pain
Tears of loves lost in the days gone by
My love is strong, with you there is no wrong
Together we shall go until we die
My, my, my inspiration is what you are to me
Inspiration look, see

And so today, my world it smiles
Your hand in mine, we walk the miles
Thanks to you it will be done
For you to me are the only one
Happiness, no more be sad
Happiness, I’m glad

If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
Mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me
