Are hybrid games the future for online casinos?

Posted by

Many different trends emerge from time to time; casino game developers are currently combining two different disciplines to create hybrid games. This can produce some great titles and here are a few times the developers have hit gold.

Eyes down

The biggest and best example of a casino hybrid game that has become phenomenally successful is Slingo. All the major online casinos provide Slingo games for real money with new Slingo titles appearing every week and often heavily promoted. Combining bingo mechanics with a slot reel simply makes sense and in 1994 New Jersey real estate developer, Sal Falciglia Sr. did create something engaging and fun when he conceived of Slingo. The move to regularly playing casino games online via a mobile phone has been instrumental in the rise of Slingo and the game now appears to be the natural successor to the classic bingo.

Just borrowing an element of another game can also prove effective and this has certainly been the case as developers take the multipliers, which traditionally were only associated with slots, and add them to classic casino table games such as roulette, blackjack and baccarat. This could only be executed in the online sphere due to the complex math that needs to be done instantly.  The most prominent examples are games such as Quantum Blackjack and Lightning Roulette, which added even more multipliers to create Quantum Blackjack Plus, Live XXXtreme Lightning Roulette and other similar titles. Adding multipliers to classic casino table games has been an unparalleled success adding a new dynamic to keep players interested and making these games capable of providing some lucky punters with life-changing wins from a relatively small stake.

Game on

A fairly recent development that has also proved to be a successful casino hybrid game is what’s referred to as the live game show experience. This growing genre of casino games takes popular game show processes and allows players to stake real money on their ability to be successful participants in the live game. While established TV titles such as the cancelled Deal Or No Deal have been triumphantly converted into prominent live casino games, developers have also been successful in creating unique live game show experiences with titles such as Monopoly Big Baller Live, The Money Drop Live and Live Cash or Crash.

In it to win it

The recent hybrid game Crazy Coin Flip Live plays just like a regular slot until you match the scatter symbols and qualify for the bonus round. At this point, players are transported to a live game show set-up where the host calculates your multipliers and then pulls a lever to flip a coin that will determine how much you win. It’s essentially a hybrid of a slot and live game show experience, which is something we’ve not seen previously. There have been many great games by developers Evolution and with the success of Crazy Coin Flip Live, we expect to see more hybrids of this ilk in the future.
The popularity of hybrid casino games indicates the direction of the industry and considering how victorious these examples have been, there’s little doubt that developers will continue to tinker and blend games to keep players interested.
